Thank you! Experimenting in my art process and seeing where it leads is something that I tend to lean into (and love), so I am glad that I managed encourage you to try something new too.

I so agree with this Nino...I learnt watercolour in the early days with all its ‘rules’ but I didn’t have the patience for all the waiting and the layers. I’m a quick sketcher and painter too and often became frustrated with the process. Still working on leaving some of those methods behind😍

I had to also figure out how I enjoyed using acrylics in my own way, before I could enjoy using them. The traditional way just frustrated me, and caused me to leave the paint in a box at the bottom of a closet 🙈 never using them.

I completely agree with you Nino about experiencing the art materials as we wish, there are no right or wrong ways in art! Also need to say that my favourite flower is the tulip 🥰 and a visit to Keukenhof is on my dream list so this post really reach my heart 🌷😘

Almost all of my art work either uses unconventional materials, or conventional materials used "incorrectly". I don't buy a lot of art supplies because I tend to be too precious with them. Too afraid to use them. To make a mistake with them. Afraid I'll waste them. I use things I can find instead. I paint in the books and magazines the local library throws out and gives away. I use marked down house paint from the hardware store. I work with things I print and copy. Whatever materials I don't mind ruining, so I can trick myself into being unafraid to create something new.

That sounds like a great approach. It’s so important to not feel too precious about our supplies. I still have a few tubes of paint left over from way back in high school, some of them have dried out. It’s a shame, I should have used them with abandon. Great idea to use marked down house paint from the hardware store. (I know Picasso also famously used this.) I have also thought of using the paint samples that you get at the hardware store. I’ll have to give it a try at some point.

I love your ink sketch! Can I ask, do you find it difficult taking pots of ink out with you? I’m very clumsy and often spill a pot even when I’m safely in my studio!🤭

Thank you so much! I don’t take ink out that often, but have done it a couple of times and thus far I have been lucky enough to not get any spills. What I do to keep it “safer” is that I would drip a few drops of ink into a plastic palet, and the use the ink from there, keeping the bottle tightly closed. Afterwards I would just wipe out the palette with a piece of kitchen towel and throw it in the nearest bin. That works when you are using it with a brush, with a dip pen or stick that trick doesn’t work that well.
