I hope these sketches bring some joy to your day
A month’s worth of work, all done during online drawing sessions
Those who have been following along for a while, will know that I generally prefer drawing from life. However, this last month I really enjoyed the online drawing sessions I joined. My brain was too full with non-art related things and I thus found it wonderful that I could join a drawing session where someone else directed what we should draw for that hour. I love that it gets me to draw things which I might not usually choose. I also find the shorter timings that is set beneficial, because it gets me to stop drawing at points where I would normally continue, which means that the drawings are much looser and I seldom over work a drawing.
In this month’s online drawing session collection I have portraits, landscapes, monkeys(!) and still lives. Happy looking!
Portraits
These portraits were drawn during an early Monday morning session with Chloe Briggs from Drawing is Free.
Landscapes
During the short winter school holiday I joined a session with
on her patreon where we drew landscapes with a focus on negative space.Monkeys
This session with
was so much fun and definitely something I wouldn’t normally choose to draw.In one of my notes I asked readers what they think the story behind these two monkeys are. One of my favourite comments came from
:“The monkey on the left wants to decorate their home, you know change the colour of the leaves from green to a different shade of green and needs the monkey on the right to buy into this change. Although the monkey on the right knows the seasons will do this for them soon enough anyway. But the cushions don't match and he just doesn't want to start getting the paint out as they need bananas first. You've caught them in the middle of a marital stand off. Not sure who's going to yield but they've made each other’s ears bleed with the discussion.”
Still lives
The last session of the month were on still lives. For these two I prepped the paper beforehand with my Gelli Plate and just love the texture it created in combination with my neocolors.
Thank you for following along!
May you have a creative day,
Nino
They brought me much joy!
I love how colorful your portraits and landscapes are!
